DETROIT TIGERS Third Annual Negro Leagues Weekend Celebration Details and Calendar of Events Wednesday, August 3rd – Saturday, August 6th Wednesday, August 3rd 6PM-8PM Radio One Celebrity Auction to benefit the Baseball Assistance Team Mason will host a celebrity auction featuring unique sports memorabilia. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Baseball Assistance Team, an organization designed to provide financial support to former Negro Leagues Players. Event location is not determined yet. Thursday, August 4th 10AM-2PM Karen Dumas from Up Front AM1200 will broadcast live from the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History highlighting the Negro Leagues display. During her broadcast, Karen will interview former Negro Leagues players as well as Tiger affiliates. Listeners will be invited to come and celebrate in honor of the Negro Leagues players. This is a free event to the public. Friday, August 5th 10AM-2PM Metro Detroit High School All Star Game The best of Metro Detroit’s High School baseball players will play a 6-inning game on the field of Comerica Park. The Metro Detroit High School All Star Game is sponsored in part and coordinated by the Detroit Tigers T-Ball to Baseball Program. T-Ball to Tigers is a Detroit Tigers community based program designed to provide on-going educational and financial support to area youth baseball programs. Tune Up will broadcast live from Comerica Park in the stands during the High School All Star Game. Gary Chandler will mix during the game. The Hype Squad will host the game from 10AM-2PM. Friday, August 5th 12PM-1PM High School Celebrity Long Ball Challenge The Hype Squad and Tune Up will host this event. Local celebrities will team up with the leading scorers of the Metro Detroit High School All Star Game to compete in a long ball challenge on the field of Comerica Park. Friday, August 5th 5:30PM-6:30PM Metro Area Greek Step Show Tune Up and Gary Chandler will host the Detroit area Greek Step Show. This event will be coordinated by the Detroit Tigers. The Step Show will take place in the Columbia Plaza in front of Comerica Park. Friday, August 5th 6PM-12AM Kiss First Friday at a location yet to be determined hosted by Mr. John Mason. Somewhere HOT! Saturday, August 6th 8AM-12Noon During Mason’s show on Saturday morning, he will highlight and interview the former Negro Leagues Players and Tiger Officials. Saturday, August 6th 5:30PM-7PM Autograph session featuring former Negro Leagues Players – Comerica Park concourse hosted by Mason. Mason will host the pre-game field ceremony. Mason will also be honored for his achievements in the community and his commitment to the betterment of Detroit. During this time, we’ll rotate Kiss commercials on the Jumbo-tron and the Official Negro Leagues Game.
